Target Stores is a division of Target Corporation. The discount retail chain in the United States has 1,100 stores in 47 states, including Target Greatland and SuperTarget. Target is known for differentiating itself from competitors like Kmart and Wal-Mart by offering more upscale, trend-forward merchandise. Target is the main division of Target Corporation.
In its home state of Minnesota, Target is often referred to as "Target French Boutique" (with "Target" pronounced in a quasi-mocking, pseudo-French accent as "Tar-zhay"), an ironic reference to its staunchly middle-class clientele.
