1 : Ossett
Ossett is a town in the county of West Yorkshire, England. The town was a centre of the "shoddy" industry, the recycling of woollen garments. It has moved away from its working-class roots and become increasingly affluent in recent years, so that it is now constantly returning Liberal Democrats to the local council rather than Labour. There remains a sense of local identity, however, as anyone who goes out in Ossett at night tends to find out.
The novelist Stan Barstow, the author of A Kind of Loving, was born at Ossett. Also, the great Methodist Benjamin Ingham came from the town, which was once a hotbed of nonconformism in Yorkshire. The famous video game "Worms" was produced by the Ossett-based "Team 17" and the Hell level contained a sign saying "Welcome to Ossett!"
